Dennis,
If I remember right this is what I did :
- boot on the first install CD
- strike F1 and then type 'rescue' at the boot prompt
- mount your old main / partition (/dev/hdx) on /mnt/disk
- run lilo chrooted :
$ chroot /mnt/disk/ /sbin/lilo
- reboot and you should get lilo menu
