What I can't figure out is why KDE and Gnome are both worse than Win98 these days when it comes to speed/performance. It's kind of embarrassing, really. > Actually, all in all it's funny what one finds to complain about when > you no longer have to reboot all the time and worry about system freezes. Yes, the whole "no longer need to reboot just because an application is misbehaving" issue -- does rather put things in perspective, yes? OTOH, when I went to test this same setup on my desktop PC, Evolution manages to lock my system hard, so it won't even respond to network requests! I don't know what is going on, but I have actually been forced to hard-reboot, because keyboard, mouse, and network were all non-responsive. Ugh -- I'm just glad this happened at home, and not at a customer site where I praised the stability of Linux. Of course, I would never load such a beta product on a production machine anyway -- well, except my laptop, but I figured I could restore it easily enough, so I wasn't too worried about giving Ximian a try.
