Hello.
Got the distro of MD 8.0 PPC and it seems to be, ummmmm, finicky! I'll address my
most immediate problem and that is, I cannot get the bootloader to come up to save my
life. I've tried a bunch of different fixes, but would welcome any other suggestions.
Here's what I did, and what I get:
1. boot from cd and do a 'install-text' install because it doesn't support the geForce
2 for the install
2. follow the instructions for 'if the bootloader doesn't appear hold down
Command-Option-O-F...'
3. reboot and get to firmware
4. type in the 'setenv boot-device hd:5,\\:tbxi'
5. get the 'ok'
6. type 'shut-down'
7. reboot, get the blinking system folder for half a second and then it boots to MacOS
8. reboot again to firmware
9. type 'boot hd:5,\\:tbxi' and get the following message:
load-size=cfc adler32=8ed86520
parsing <CHRP-BOOT>
DEFAULT CATCH!, code=70 at %SRR0:ff816284 %SRR1:0000b030
10. curse, rant and throw objects around room, surf web for possible other fix
I can get it to boot into MD sometimes by typing 'boot hd:5,yaboot' into the firmware,
but I'm not sure the text install worked right because I get all kind of 'Oups:
[something] not implemented' errors and it will occaisonally lock up. BTW, don't even
get me started on X config!!!!! Not sure what to do next...thought I'd see if I could
get lucky.
The machine is a PowerMac G4 133FSB dual 533 with 1.128 GB of RAM, geForce2MX video
and a 15" LCD.
