I got it to work on my T22 by following the following advice:

The install of IBM Laptops of recent make MUST be done as follows
(tested on T20, X21).

1. At the splash screen, hit F1
2. type in "text expert" without the quotes
3. answer in the negative for extra modules
4. load no SCSI modules
5. follow the rest of the install.

which you can find at:

After you finish the install you should install a different kernel if
you want to use the mouse :-) On the installation CD there are a couple
of 2.2.x kernels that should work. I'm running 2.4.5-8 which works OK.

Had problems with the second CD (the installation bailed out after the
1st CD) and had to install the packages I wanted manually.

Cheers,

Alan
