Ok, I was able to get a bit further but my system is still broken and now I'm getting really upset. I managed to boot onto my system by copying the kernel image on the rescue floppy onto my HD and adding it to lilo. It gave me several warning messages, but managed to boot. I then forced the original 2.4.3 RPMs onto my system and reran lilo. Now when I boot I get a similar set of error messages as what I got when I upgraded my kernel RPMs in the first place. So I think the 2.4.7 RPMs did some Very Bad Things to somewhere else in my system, and I don't understand what happened. Here are the kinds of messages I get: /lib/reiserfs.o: unresolved symbol generic_file_write_Rb4bf712b /lib/reiserfs.o: unresolved symbol iput_R3d5184c8 /lib/reiserfs.o: unresolved symbol generic_block_bmap_R415979fa /lib/reiserfs.o: unresolved symbol page_symlink_inode_operations_Rb77af34b /lib/reiserfs.o: unresolved symbol generic_file_write_Rb4bf712b Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:01 What the heck is this all about? What can I do to get my system up and running again?? I'm getting increasingly frustrated with this. I suppose the next thing I'll do is try compiling my own kernel with reiserfs built in so I can at least get a semi-stable system again. I really don't want to have to rebuild my system (and can't see why I would have to), but it's apparent that the 2.4.7 RPM upgrade hosed a lot of things...
