I do not know if parted can non-destructively resize your partitions. The program you are really looking for is ext2resize-0.1-16mdk which is included on the 8.0 CDs, but is not installed by default. You should also look at ext2ed-0.1-16mdk which is a filesystem editor Forever never goes beyond tomorrow.
