In KDE (and I think GNOME) your desktop "directory" is directly under your home directory. My username is davidj, so in Mandrake 8, I have a directory /home/davidj/Desktop In there are a whole bunch of shortcut files. Open the one you want and the binary file you want to run is in the "Exec" line. If you have civileme> PowerPack, it is on supplementary software CD. Thanks, that answers the specific question. The general question still stands: if someone says there's a program on the desktop called "Useful Program", how do I find the name of the executable and/or RPM that corresponds to that program? -- Laura (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] , http://www.laymusic.org/ ) (617) 661-8097 fax: (801) 365-6574 233 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02139
