Most orinoco adapters are actually PCMCIA adapters inserted into a PCI
expansion card. So first of all you have to enable PCMCIA support and that
usually means you have to install your kernel-pcmcia-*.rpm module, edit your
/etc/sysconfig/pcmcia and /etc/pcmcia/config.opts files and start the pcmcia
service ...

I am using WaveLAN gold adapters and here's my line for config.opts ...

module "wvlan_cs" opts "port_type=3 channel=1 station_name=WLAN-12-1"
