I, personally, always find it beneficial to do a clean install rather
than an upgrade. It's faster and doesn't leave any cruft behind. A
bit more of a pain sometimes, but I'm guaranteed a working system.
The last time I did an upgrade (mind you, this was like 6.0->6.1 so it
was a while ago), it wreaked havoc on my system.

How about taking the 5 minute solution? =) Visit
www.freezer-burn.org/qmail.php and download the qmail, daemontools,
ucspi-tcp, dot-forward, fastforward, and checkpassword RPMs I
created. In 5 minutes you'll have a fully-functioning qmail server
ready at your beck and call. =) They were built under 7.2 but work
just fine under 8.0 as well.

There is a... ahem... problem with the license in qmail that prevents
us from doing so. My RPMs follow the license to the letter, but it's
a very grey area so we prefer not to do it. You will notice, however,
the 8.0 is "qmail-ready"... a bunch of packages like daemontools and
such are in contribs, and the qmail users are integrated into the
system. All you need to do is download my RPM and you're ready to
rock.

Do your fresh install and use my rpms. A lot of time and energy went
into them to make them as close to perfect as is possible, and they
work quite well.

One caveat... when you install the packages, in order to get it
working right away, you will need to do two extra steps (as opposed to
waiting an hour for it work):

/etc/cron.hourly/qmail
/etc/rc.d/init.d/qmail cdb

Then you can do:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/qmail start

Good luck!
