I'm having a problem with the Mandrake 8.0 install. I was
able to install JBuilder under 7.2 but not 8.0. The problem
has two parts:
1) The install cd has links buried in /mnt/cdrom/setup/jre/linux/bin
for some of the basic java binaries like java, keytool, policytool...
These seem to point to /root/.DCOPserver_mymachine.mydomain.com_:0
which is a link pointing to a file in the same directory which refers to
/tmp/.ICE-unix/####. The #### is a process id. Needless to say
this link doesn't work...furthermore I have no idea what its tryiing
to do. When accessed using original link like
> ./java
it returns permission denied.
2) The second part of the problem I think is related but shows
a different symtom. The install directions indicate a file
you can run to bypass the regular installer. When I run the
file, it tells me that it couldn't uncompress and it thinks the
file was downloaded in ascii versus binary mode. This is
the file from the CD and I used it to install under 7.2 so
I know its confused.
If anyone can shed some light on this problem, I would appreciate it.
