Hi (again) all,
On my older p133 computer, the 2.4 kernel hangs on startup. Basically it
boots correctly and gets to the (text) login prompt. After some time
(maybe 20 seconds) i get this message on the console:
Winbond Super-IO detection, now testing ports 3F0,370,250,4E,2E ...
and my computer hangs. [yes, it is running before i get this message. If
i'm quick i can log in fine, but it still gets the message and hangs.]
The strange thing is in the boot logs i see the same message, but WAY
earlier in the boot sequence, and it seems to succeed and go on booting....
so..... i'm wondering why it would come out again so late in the startup
process? Or is something totally unrelated messing up and that string
printing totally unrelated?
Anyway, i was going to disable the super-io stuff in the kernel to see if
it really is my problem, but i can't recompile the kernel (see my earlier
messages). Does anyone know if there is a boot parameter to use or /proc/?
file i can write to disable it's autoprobe?
any idea?
any other use info i can send in?
Thanks!
Ken
