Ah, good old Dave. I knew him well - he can be handy when used correctly
(as in 'egrep foo /bar/file > /dev/null 2> errorlog'), but a real pain
when he shows up uninvited!

As I was replying to other email, it hit me: that's probably from a sequence
from a config file somewhere that looks like this:
Reply-To:
Footer_type append
when it should have been something like:
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Footer_type: append
or perhaps
Reply-To:
Footer_type: append
or maybe even
Footer_type: append
does anyone with experience in sympa know if I'm anywhere near
the mark here?
And is anyone at Mandrake still around, or are they all busy with the
fire caused by the release? ;-) / 2

random end notes.
I think maybe I'll set up sympa (I plan to use mailman, but maybe I'll
check sympa just to see if I'm right here). After the reply-to issues
and multiple copy issues I've seen here on mandrake-expert I think
I'll probably NOT use sympa! Does anyone have bad/good experiences
with mailmain, or have a better suggestion? Its a low-volume list,
and I plan to not allow un-approved subscriptions (i.e. the mailing
lists are NOT moderated, but subscribing IS 'moderated' as it were).
Hmm. I recall comments a while back about a replacement for the mailing
list server coming 'Real Soon Now'. I've got access to P200/32M IBM boxes
for like $150 (but I'm having a little trouble getting addin memory to
work - that's another story!) - I'd be willing to load it up (using
8.0 ;-) and set it up as a mailing list server using mailman and ship
if off to Mandrake as a replacement (if I didn't have to pay for the box -
my toy fund is pretty low (i.e. negative!) right now!) But I'd need to also
solve the memory problem, as we'd REALLY want more than 32M of ram!
The memory problem is like this:
Its a IBM PC300GL (as I recall). A friend bought 10 of them, each with
32M (I got one from him). I went out and bought 128M (the max it will
hold) of PC-100 memory as 2 64M sticks, which the docs say are acceptable
memory sizes. However, the system will only see 16M of each one! (*)
So, after much research, I discovered that some PC-66 motherboards are
apparently incompatible with PC100 memory. So, I went out and changed
the PC100 to PC66. They don't work either! I have managed to get the
machine to 64M by finding 2 of my friends machines with 1 32M stick
and putting them in the box, so I know it can handle more than 32M.
And, to make matters 'worse', my wife's computer appears to suffer
the same malady - its memories work fine in the IBM, but memories
which don't work right on the IBM also don't work right in hers.
(* - I also tried some 128M pc133's I'd bought for my other machine,
no good either. I have 3 of the IBM boxes at home right now, and
each one acted slightly differently with the memories I tried in
them. One did not see one of the PC100 (or maybe it was one of the
PC133) chips at all!) Does anyone have any experience with
this kind of problem??? Help!
Ok, enough random babbling...
