Hey Guy, dbassist hangs for the 2 minutes as well and then reports not being able to create the database. Only the crdb1.log (shown below) has anything other than Oracle is not available messages. Using svrmgrl and doing a 'connect internal' works, I get the ORA-00445 after a 'startup' command. -- Marc

Marc,
Its easier to use dbassist cause the scripts they make sometimes contain errors. You did start svrmgrl and connected as internal I suppose? What's in your logs?
Guy.

Hi,
I've been trying to get Oracle 8.1.7 working on Mandrake 7.2 for the past few days and I can't seem to get past the problem I'm having. I installed Oracle without creating a database at install time, and everything appeared to work fine. The problem is when I run the database creation script I made with dbassist I get the following in $ORACLE_HOME/admin/orcl/create/crdb1.log...
Connected. ORA-00445: background process "PMON" did not start after 120 seconds CREATE DATABASE "orcl" * ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE Disconnected.
After this point everything else just spews ORA-03114 messages. Has anyone else come across this?
My machine is as follows:
AMD duron 750 256MB RAM 9GB available on the ORACLE_HOME partition, plenty of space elsewhere
I didn't recompile the kernel as the values in the headers the Oracle docs said to look at seemed appropriate.
Any ideas?
