Have checked whether your system had correctly recognized the size of VRAM
installed on your graphic card. I had exactly the same problem as you, and I
manage to resolve it by changing the size of VRAM from 4MB (recognized by
Mandrake) to 8MB (correct value). 
This you need to change manually in a ... file (I forgot which one, and I do not
have Mandrake accessible here, but try any X*config files in your X dir). If not
feel free to e-mail me I will check it for you at the evening.
