Since I upgraded from LM7.1++( 7.1 { updates and a whole lotta cooker) to
7.2, I had this problem when cold booting. Everything looks okay when going
thru the boot process, but when it leaves the login screen to go to X and
start KDE, there seems to be a delay. The KDE splash screens starts to draw
very slowly, sort of a few lines at a time. All the icons are stuck, for want
of a better term, at the top of the screen. You cannot go to a console from
here. basicly no key works. If I restart the machine by hitting the reset
button, after fsck goes thru it's check, it boot's normally. If I go to a
console from X, and then try to return later, X is frozen/locked up tight.
I have tried starting X from the console, and I have the same problem on a
cold boot. I have tried with and without autologin. Same results. If the
chooser window comes up, it draws slow. I have tried reinstalling my distro,
and that didn't help either.
I have also upgraded from KDE2.0 to 2.0.1 to 2.10(Chris's files work great ,
btw) and that didn't help either.
I hope this is clear enough(probably not). Any clues?? I have a feeling the
problem lies with the cfengine. Is there any reason I need it for a dial-up
internet connection/standalone system?
Please help. It looks bad when a grown man cries.
Jerry
