I must admin I haven't the time or the diskspace to play with VMWare on linux, but last time I installed VMWare on NT, I could boot both my existing Linux (Redhat at that stage, I think) and win98. Of course, before running your original OS in VMWare, it's best to configure hardware profiles for the machine so it doesn't get confused. I assume you know that there are the vmware utils (drivers for emulated hardware basically) that you need to install on win98 after you get it running.
