It's probably your glibc version - did you upgrade that too? I'm on MDK7.0
and I got the same problem when I upgraded my glibc to glibc-2.1.3-14mdk
which I got from the Mandrake updates mirror. Downgrade that and things
should improve. Of course, there's always a reason why the update was
necessary....
