hi all,
i'm running mandrake 7.1 with apache-1.3.12-24 from cooker (same problem
with 1.3.12-12 from the 7.1 install) and access_log is not being written
to until the daemon is stopped or SIGHUP'ed at which point the info *is*
logged to access_log. i've left the logging bit of http.conf as it came
in the packages:
CustomLog logs/access_log combined
their is a thread on comp.infosystems.www.servers.unix with the same
problem that does not lead to a resolution

i emailed the guy there with the problem and he said he finally removed
the mdk packages and installed the redhat ones.
