The Viper II is unsupported by XFree86 as yet, Diamond tells you just exactly this
much about its
cards so you can write drivers
" "
Windows might have a driver written by diamond, or it might be supplied separately
with the card.
But know this: Microsoft blames 25% of its crashes on third-party drivers.

A working system after you finish installing all the third-party drivers not on the
windows disk.
You will NOT find another distro which will work with the Viper II. All of them use
XFree86 which
does not yet support the card. Xi Graphics might have a driver (check their
accelerated-X
package out), specs available at www.linuxmall.com though I recommend buying the
package somewhere
else because I have serious doubts about the abilities of EBiz enterprises to offer
decent
customer service.
Sorry, I should have asked earlier what your card was and saved you some time and
effort.

True...
Props to Anton for diagnosing this one....
Civileme
Ugh--VGA16! I can well imagine your frustration, Gilbert.
