not only there is no way to paly these files on Linux. There never could be
any way to play them or convert to any other format. Unless Microsoft
releases Windows Media Player for Linux. The format has been patented not
long ago. Anyway, this is the worst (in terms of quality) video format, so
better use anything else and tell your friends do so.

there is a Microsoft Netshow Player for UNIX, it runs, but I haven't found
any asf files which can be played with it. Download it from
http://ziedas.ktu.lt/~mindas/netshow_linux.bz2
