Correct. I use this frequently. BTW you can not only _extract_ files 
inside the archive, but also _view_ them without extracting (in fact
they are extracted in a tmp file and purged when you exit mc).

It works well with many kinds of archives: tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2, rpm,
etc...

The only thing you have to take care of is that the archive must NOT
be executable in its permissions. This is not a problem with .rpm
on Linux distributions CD's (including Mandrake) but can be in some
circumstances: e.g. I usually download files at work because of the
fast Internet connexion, but there I have to burn them using Windows
software because that's the only thing available there. Well, it is
_impossible_ to have a file on a Joliet CD _not_ executable, you can
mount the CD but _all_ files (and directories !!!) are executable
and you can't change it in Linux ... so I have to copy the .rpm files
from the CD to my HD first (and alter their permissions) to be able 
to use mc on them.
