did you use the program sndconfig to configure?
(just type "sndconfig" as root)
if that didn't work, try installing the driver from
www.opensource.com (they have half-decent instructions)
you probably tried these already, but
i have a SBlive, and 7.0 and both methods seem to work,
although the later method gives the latest version of the
sound driver (it seems that some of the versions have not
been so great).
