I believe it is a sound driver for Gnome. When I ran Gnome, I had to run it from a 
terminal window, to make my sound workable. If I recall right, there is a menu item 
from the panel for esd. I then enabled sound from Enlightenment, and just didnt use 
all their sound schemes.
