Well, the problem is that windows 9x rewrites the MBR, thus
removing LILO and you don't get the option to reboot to
Linux anymore. That's why it's highly recommended that you
install Linux AFTER you install Windows....but I guess no
one mentioned that. :-)

Well, I'm using a Kingston 10 mbit card at home which is
based on the Dec Tulip chipset. Great chipset. Linux likes
it just fine.... I'm afraid I don't know the model number
of that card right off.....but most "name brand" nic card
should work.
