Ummm,
What is your printing configuration? lpd is not for all situations.
1. Have you ever used this particular configuration successfully with any linux?
I ask because I just saw a long thread on a RH+ distro list concerning this very
thing, and nothing done to the print setup had much effect.
2. I am guessing that this is IP printing. Is this the case? If so, have you
heard of CUPS? It is pretty much a replacement for lpd that works in this
situation. My solution was a little more dramatic. I took out the JetDirect
cards and put a few superannuated 486s running (well some in windows for
SMB printing yet) CClinux in their place, with old-fashioned parallel cables.
Performance of the network was much improved, because long print jobs got spooled
at both ends.
