Greetings all,
Just thought I'd drop the list a line about the solution. Unfortunately, due to
the exceptional nature of the solution, I doubt it will help many people.
After I heard most of your responses I became convinced that I wasn't dealing with
a simple mis-configuration, and I went on a total hunch ( well, more like a stab or
shot in the dark...) to the ASUS website, trolling for ideas. I read the fix list
for the TX-97E motherboard BIOS ver. 0108 update. In it contained a reference to a
drive detection bug in the previous BIOS ver. 0107 on (you guessed it) a large IBM
drive. I dropped the new BIOS in, and off it went!
I thank all of you who commented on this for your invaluable assistance; it helped
me greatly in evaluating the problem, and was instrumental in sending me packing to
the ASUS site.
Okam's razor sure went dull on this one.
