Try running the command from an xterm passing in the same arguments that
EXMH would and observe the behavior there.

I have observed  that if I already have an  instance of Firefox running,
when I click on a URL, EXMH does  not block as it just passes the URL to
the  existing  instance and  the  firefox  command returns  immediately.
However, if there is no instance of  firefox running, and I click a URL,
then EXMH does in fact block. That's because the program itself does not
"detach" and "background".
