Sorry to add so little content, but I'm with Ken here, El Capitan through to Catalina, never had the ssh/xauth/XQuartz-reinstall-needed problem described above. Tom, were you using "ssh -Y" to connect from macOS to RHEL? Somewhere in the OpenSSH development chain we all had to switch from using "ssh -X" to "ssh -Y", which had some xauth/security ramifications. Sorry I can't recall exactly when -- like most exmh-users, I'm old (:-).
