Give this a shot.
It could be done as a nested if..then..else but for clarity, I recommend
making a custom function in the macro/vba editor.
to use, enter "=Answer(testcell) in you desired answer column, ie: in
Column C, enter"=answer(A1)".
Function Answer(MyCell)
acct = Left(MyCell, 1)
balance = Cells(MyCell.Row, 2).Value
Answer = ""
Select Case acct
Case 1: If balance > 0 Then Answer = "ok"
Case 2: If balance < 0 Then Answer = "ok"
Case 3: If balance < 0 Then Answer = "ok"
Case 4: If balance < 0 Then Answer = "ok"
Case 5: If balance > 0 Then Answer = "ok"
Case 6: If balance > 0 Then Answer = "ok"
Case 7: If balance > 0 Then Answer = "ok"
End Select
End Function
