*SENIOR FRONT-END ENGINEER*

*Position Summary (Mission):*  A Senior Front-End Engineer is a *User
Experience (UX)* expert who leads the development of the User Interface
(UI) portions of Railinc products, ensuring ease of use and productive
capabilities are delivered to our customers. Applies process analysis,
statistics, and design thinking to simplify and solve complex problems,
recommend solutions, and persuade client stakeholders. Develops re-usable
UX components and enables developers to apply them and develop some of
their own UX capabilities.

*• 60% - Development (small & large scale projects)*

- Design:  ability to conceptualize requirements through wire-framing and
other methods of visual communications

- Articulate UX strategy (define, articulate, and implement)

- Ability to lead development initiatives



*• 20% - User Experience *

- Develop reusable user experience components

- Apply software engineering principles including testing

- Maintain: leverage existing libraries as well as create reusable
components

- Innovate: build proofs of concepts that may push the technical envelope

- Usability: ability to work with external and internal teams/customers
while leveraging UX best practices, and usability testing, to ensure
customer satisfaction

- Trouble-shooting support

- Mentoring – education team members on front-end technologies and best
practices

• Well-versed in fundamental visual and interactive design disciplines.

• Proficient in building web standards solutions using semantic markup and
CSS.

• Understands major browsers and the special considerations required for
their various quirks.

• Able to communicate on a technical level with development teams and
architecture.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Leader and self-starter who searches for better approaches, engages the
business and technical groups, and introduces new/improved concepts,

*Additional Requirements:*

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in computer science, human factors
engineering, or related field or equivalent experience

• Minimum of 7 years of professional front-end web development (JavaScript,
HTML, CSS, AJAX, Flash/Flex, ActionScript)

• Experience working in an Agile Software Development environment as well
as providing leadership within an agile team

• Experience working with JSPs, RESTful services, and various APIs

• Experience with source version control software (SVN)



*Physical Requirements*

• Sedentary work:  assignment involves sitting at workstation (desk) most
of the time (up to 8 hours) with only occasional walking and/or standing

• Keyboarding:  Primarily using fingers for typing

• Talking:  Expressing or communicating verbally through use of spoken
words (accurately conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to
others)

• Hearing:  Ability to receive detailed information through oral
communication and to make discriminations in sound.

• Visual:  Through close visual acuity, required to perform activities such
as:  preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing
computer terminal; extensive reading (with or without correction)

• Environment:  work is performed within an office setting and therefore no
substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (i.e. extreme
heat, cold, noise, etc.)
