hilary, Instead of TEXT(MONTH(TODAY()),"mmm"), I think you were aiming for TEXT(TODAY(),"mmm"). You could also use =TODAY() with a cell format of mmm to have it displayed as Jan/Feb/etc. but still hold a dateserial as the underlying value of the cell.
