Hi Krishnan,

The problem is that formulas do calculations, and you want them to store values.

I posted a VBA user-defined function the other day for a similar request. The
requestor wanted a formula that would calculate the current date and then
retain it without change in the future.

In that case, the date was associated with I think a serial number or ID#, and
I devised a function they could use in a formula that would calculate the date
when a new serial # was entered or changed, and then retain that date using an
unconventional technique (UDFs and formulas can't usually store data).

But you said you can't use a macro, so perhaps it wouldn't help you. But if
you are interested I will look it up and repost it for you.

To my knowledge, there is no automatic solution to your query that does not
involve VBA or some kind of add-in.

It simply is counter to the way Excel was designed.

*There is a shortcut key for the current time, though: CTRL-: (The current
date is entered with CTRL-;)

Asa

Or, you could use a double click event macro to do a time stamp

target=time

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ Time capture (NOW)

Dear Excel Gurus,

I need help with a formula.. All I need is to do I capture current time, and

freeze the same... For eg: if I need to enter the time as 10.01 am using

'NOW'.... Excel should capture the time as 10.01 and not refresh it, as

soon as the system time changes...

I know there are alternate options like shift + ; but I need the formula for

the same using 'now'... Kindly help if possible..

Thank for your continuous support!
