Dashboard is just a fancy name for a spreadsheet that summarizes key data in graphical format (ie: multiple graphs and charts).
Pivot tables are tools that are used to consolidate / manage large amounts of data. see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pivot_table If you have data to manipulate, post it.
