it is not clear what you want.
you entered the date as text because you entered an apostrophe at the
beginning.
in excel enter the date as m/d/yy that is, in this case 10/20/09
now you have entered as texts in 4500 cases you have to convert to
excel date
in an empty cell in the same row type this formula
=DATE(RIGHT(E9,2),MID(E9,4,2),LEFT(E9,2))
you can copy this down. and then copy to the column E
now you can format dates as you want by clicking
format(menu)-cells-date.
