Hi osiso,

You need to nest match function inside your vlookup.
Send me the excel file with sample data and I'll show you how....

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ need help vlookup macro or another idea

sheet is called 'work'
stock id start weight 200705 200706 return end wt country
code
AUSAHA1 8.32% #N/A 11.10 AUS
AUSAZH1 5.22% -1.53 AUS
AUSBUU1 5.39% -0.27 AUS
AUSADW1 4.08% 0.52 AUS

sheet is called fx
Date AUS AUT
199704 0.782 0.082
199705 0.761 0.083
199706 0.749 0.082
199707 0.745 0.077
199708 0.735 0.079

i would like to get the fx rate for each stock id given its country and the
yearmonth i'm investigating. ideally the macro will populate '200705' and
'200706' from the .csv file i open then it will lookup the fx rates for the
given month and the given country.

the proble is this:
=vlookup(country code, 'fx', column number, false) country code is a cell
that is easily referenced and 'fx' is stored as a name, but the COLUMN
NUMBER IS FIXED. i would like this to be dynamic. can i do a vlookup within
a vlookup where the column number is linked to the column header in the
sheet 'work' (its the yearmonth which can be used in the fx
matrix)??????????
