Hi Jen,
I have attached a file with the points plotted for both the mean and variance.
I am not sure which version of MS Excel you are using. The version of the file
attached is on MS Excel 2007 and the steps to construct the graph is as follows:
1. Insert - Choose chart type (Eg column or line or what ever type you want!)
2. Right click on the chart area and select the option 'Select Data'
3. Click on 'Add' under 'Legend Entry (Series)'
For 'series name' choose the cell with the heading 'mean' in my file
this is cell B1
For 'series values' select the cells with the mean values, in my file
the cell range is B2:B6
4. For 'Horizontal Category Labels' click on 'Edit' select range A2:A6
Now the steps to add the Varaiance:
1. Again click on 'Add' under 'Legend Entry (Series)'
Repeat all steps as above but this time for variance
For 'series name' choose the cell with the heading 'var' in my file this
is cell C1
For 'series values' select the cells with the mean values, in my file
the cell range is C2:C6
2. For 'Horizontal Category Labels' click on 'Edit' select range A2:A6
This should give you your chart with both mean and variance.
NOTE: further changes can be made to the graph to make it more 'useable' by
changing the axis intervals.
