I have solved this problem.  When setting the imcoming and outgoing
mail servers, there is a section on checking password type.  With
bellsouth.net emails, you don't do that.  For IMAP, the settings are:
receiving: imap.mail.yahoo.com, port 993, TLS on a dedicated port, and
authentication type is password
sending: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 465, TLS on a dedicatet port, server
requires authentication, and password type is plain
