But you are right, everything depends on the server settings. I'm sorry, but I do not have any other idea. From the log the server rejects the credentials, but it doesn't tell why, it just rejects them. Is it possible to ask the server admins for a clue why the credentials had been rejected? Either you can give them an exact time and user name/IP, thus they can search the logs, or have a live debugging session with them, when you just run evolution and tell them "now". They might have the details somewhere in the logs, I believe, though I understand that it's sometimes hard (or impossible) to reach admins of servers which are public or anything else.
