Since I have experienced the same issue, I will attempt to explain what I experience. But first I know details are important, so I am using, LinuxMint 19 with Evolution 3.28.1-2. Situation, I select a Folder that contains new incoming messages (may also have previously viewed messages). I open a new message to check email content. I delete the message. At this point Evolution brings up the message that was received just before the one I deleted, the message may new or may be one that was previously viewed. The desire would be to simply delete the message, and return to the folder where the message was originally opened. Again, to provide specifics, I use a "Unified" Inbox that collects messages from multiple inboxes (using vfolder), so I would like to return to the Unified folder since it was the selected folder when the message was opened and then deleted. While I typically use the preview window to review emails, there are times it is better to open an email. Hopefully that helps explain the circumstance. I am new to Evolution, so I am still discovering how to best use the client, but so far really like it. And the Gnome Archives have been very helpful as I have tried to come up with the best setup for my situation. thank you, Don

Is there a way to delete the current message (that you're reading) without automatically opening the next message? Why would you want that? What's the use case / workflow here? I would like to have the program revert to the list in the parent folder rather than open another message. Do you delete messages in a separate message window instead of the main window? What is a "parent folder"? It's unclear to me what this means.
