Hi, let's continue here. From the two messages you sent me I'd say that there's an issue with your theme. The message from work, where the smiley is shown properly, has attached face-smile.png file, while the message from home has attached face-smile.svg. The message I sent you from my machine has attached face-smile.png and face-smile-big.png. I do not know why your home machine theme decided to pick the SVG version of the icon instead of the PNG version, might be some setting or whatever, I'm really out of idea. There had been done some unrelated changes for SVG-based icon themes for 3.22.4+ within [1], but they are unrelated in a sense that those changes just make sure that the evolution itself will not draw the icons too large in the WebKit's web view. My /usr/share/icons/ has a face-smile.svg provided by a 'breeze' icon theme, but it doesn't look like the one you sent me, thus you might have a different icon theme installed and selected. It would be interesting to find that face-smile.svg and compare its look with face-smile-big.svg, whether they differ or not.
