Apparently similar to (2) mail-notification (which is ok but for me tends to vanish randomly) (1) Evolution-tray doesn't seem to have been worked on for many years, I was going to suggest (3) alltray as an alternative but it looks like that hasn't been worked on for years either with a number of outstanding bugs on the sourceforge page. It is packaged for Debian testing though so maybe it is being worked on there. Debian has a wiki (4) for Evolution Mail-Notification if it is of use to anyone.
