This reply isn't helpful for the OP at all, but since it's a valid request to get a stable office workstation, containing a stable combination of a mailer and browser, I guess I shouldn't reply off-list. I dislike Firefox, while at the same time I like much of the work-flow when using Firefox and browsers similar to Firefox. First of all, Firefox usually is stable, but it comes with a few pitfalls. One pitfall is caused by add-ons. Add-ons might make Firefox unstable. Another pitfall is the software design. Sometimes Firefox just performs very bad, this is not the same as being unstable. While some sites cause Firefox and sometimes even the WM/DE to become unresponsive for minutes, the same sites with a webkit based browser are fast as lightning and don't cause any issues. A browser that is very close to Firefox, but based upon webkit is QupZilla. Since you are using Evolution, you might want to stay consequently gnomeish and use the GNOME browser, that also is based upon webkit. I don't have experiences with the GNOME browser, but I at least can recommend to use QupZilla.
