I don't spread FUD, your recommendation to switch from Xfce4 to GNOME, to get rid of performance issues is unworldly. I'm not pro Xfce4 and con GNOME3. Btw. the machines hardware isn't the only thing you need to take into account. Resources could be required for other tasks, than a desktop environment.
