Hi, the composer in your 3.10.4 of the Evolution uses GtkHTML component. There had been done fixes to read the theme colors from elsewhere than it is done in your version, thus even an update of the evolution & GtkHTML should address the issue (there are still themes where the fix in the code doesn't work, like when the theme doesn't define named colors, which is sad). The GtkHTML 4.6.6 (I guess that's the version you have installed) derives colors from GtkEntry. The problem is when the GtkEntry has set an image instead of a color for the background. Then the "default" color is most likely black. That said, try to overwrite colors for GtkEntry in the same way as you did for GtkWindow.
