None of this happens to me. Evolution under KDE is my standard email client on Fedora, and has been for many years. As Adam suggests, this looks more like a distro issue (not installing required themes etc.) so perhaps better ask on a [K]ubuntu list. I also notice that the OP doesn't mention which version of Evo this is (or even which version of Kununtu).
