Hi, seems your version is quite ancient, as it had been fixed either here http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=271551 or somewhere in-between, as I tested now the composer's File->Save As is remembering the last path to me. Even this is the git master here, I believe it works much longer. Actually, one option might still apply, maybe the windows version has some trouble with it. I do not know, I use the Linux one.
