(This seemed the most appropriate place to reach the Evolution triager community. If I have the wrong list please tell me.)
I am a PhD student at the University of British Columbia working on a way to assist triagers. Specifically, I am looking at an approach to recommend to whom a bug report should be assigned (i.e. which developer(s) has/have the correct expertise for a particular bug report). The philosophy is that the sooner the report gets into the hands of the right developer (or one in the right set of developers) the sooner progress can be made on the bug. I have a working web-based tool called Sibyl for providing both developer and component recommendations for bug reports. What I am looking for is triagers to try it and give me feedback. Sibyl is found at http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~janvik/sibyl. The page also has a short video tutorial so you can get a feel for how Sibyl works and looks like. Details about the evaluation are at http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~janvik/sibyl-ad.htm, including that people who try it out get a $20 gift certificate from Amazon. Sibyl is currently making recommendations for the Firefox and Eclipse projects. I want to know if the Evolution triagers are also interested in trying out the tool and giving feedback. If so, I will set Sibyl up to make component and assignment recommendations for Evolution. If you are interested, please drop me a line at [EMAIL PROTECTED] so that I can gauge the general interest. While Sibyl could also be used to make recommendations for assigning bug reports to products (I know that cross-product confusion is a problem), it would require using data from the entire repository and this is not really feasible for the moment without installing some software on the Gnome servers. However, if there is a small set (3-5) products that are commonly confused, I am willing to look at having Sibyl make recommendations to distinguish between those products. Just let me know if there is interest in it and what products would be in the set. Any questions, comments, or suggestions please contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks for a few moments of your time. -- John Anvik PhD Candidate University of British Columbia [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~janvik/ _______________________________________________ Evolution-list mailing list Evolution-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list
