These are message that have been marked as junk. They're not deleted. Messages marked as junk show up in the junk folder, where you need to delete (and expunge) them to get them to be actually deleted out of their original location. It's done this way so you can catch messages erroneously marked as junk, and they'll re-appear in their original location.
