I have several calendars under evolution--some I am willing to purge others I can't. It's unclear from the documentation whether the purge function acts on ALL calendars, only on the one you've selected, or only on those that are active. The second choice (or perhaps the last one) are the way it should work, but before I try, I figured I'd ask.
