OK hear me out on this one. Gonna put on my armchair psychologist hat for
this one.

In psychology, a well understood phenomenon is that as adults, we often
(unwittingly) recreate relationships that we had as children - especially
those with unresolved or traumatic conflicts - in order to redeem
ourselves. As an example, if as a child, a parent was an alcoholic, you
might marry an alcoholic to try (again, below the level of self-awareness)
to get that partner to love you in the way you needed as a child, because
some part of you deep down holds the belief that it was your fault that
your parent drank or didn't love you the way you needed, and a lot of our
adult behavior is a desperate attempt to prove that those beliefs are not
true.

Trump's father was famously a brutal man. Perhaps, Trump's attraction to
world leaders and embarrassing subservience to them reflects the above
dynamic - that on some level, if he can get these strong-men dictators to
respect him, it would redeem his own inner-child's desperate need for love
and attention from a father that was incapable of providing it.

Honestly, I think the above is more likely than what you're suggesting -
that Putin has something far worse than pee tapes. That's because Trump
acts this way to other strong men, and also because what we both already
agree on - that there's virtually nothing left that could actually cancel
him. Thanks to AI, even incriminating video footage of him sexually abusing
a child could be dismissed as fake.
